PROJECT PARTNERS' MEETING IN BOL, CROATIA ( 23rd-27th September 2019)

Srednja škola Bol was responsible for the organization of the 5th project partners' meeting which started on Monday 23rd September 2019 when all the partner countries met in  the center of Split and headed towards Sinj where they had an organized tour around The Museum of Alka. Riding towards Sinj on a comfortable coach, the participants were informed about the history of the region and chivalry tournament called Alka. The Sinjska Alka is an equestrian competition held in the Croatian town of Sinj every first Sunday in August since 1715 and it commemorates a Croatian- Venetian victory over Ottomans on August 14, 1715. Visiting the site where the Alka takes place every year and the museum dedicated to this event, teachers and students learnt about the rules of the game, saw the traditional clothes, gear and horses needed for the competition and got to know the culture of that area. In 2010, the Alka was inscribed in the UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage List.   After the museum tour, the participants visited the fortress called Kamičak where women and children hid during the battle, took a walk around the town of Sinj and then headed for lunch which took place on a family estate Mustang where horse riding is also available. The first working day finished by partners' arrival in the port of Bol around 6 pm.
Tuesday started by welcoming the partner countries at Srednja škola Bol and dividing students and teachers into international working groups. There were three groups: the Socrative group- which was in charge of creating quizzes on the topic of the Alka, the Piktochart group – which was in charge of creating digital posters on the topic of the Alka and the Sway group -  which was in charge of creating presentations on the topic of the Alka. The international group work was designed in such a way that all the participating students and teachers had the opportunity to learn and be taught about the all above mentioned digital tools: Socrative, Piktochart and Sway. At first, students and teachers learnt about techical things concerning the digital tools and afterwards they created and  produced their ideas and knowledge concerning the given topics. Several Croatian students worked in every group as mentors to foreign students and teachers.
Wednesday morning started with hiking in order to reach The Dragon's Cave, a cultural and religious site which tells a lot about the past of the region of Bol and the only cave in Europe with dragon's name that actually contains a dragon's relief.  After getting to know the concept of the world which is ruled by a tree and its three inhabitants: Veles ( dragon controlling the underground), Mokoš ( representing the Earth) and Perun ( representing the God sitting on the golden branch and fighting Veles to dominate Mokoš- Earth), the partners came back to school where they participated in the Zoom webinar ( 2-3.30 pm) with Swedish communication experts Urban Norling and Sussan Oster entitled: ˮ How can I contribute and enhance development for myself, my team and society? ˮ Urban Norling holds Master of Science in the field of education and Bachelor of Science in the field of coaching and supervision. Sussan Oster holds Master of Social Science in the field of Public Health and is a Professional Certified Coach (PCC) by the International Coach Federation. ( ICF)
The webinar had two parts. Part one was held on Wednesday and was concerned with the questions:
What helps you to be a responsible citizen and also to be your best self ( try to be specific and give three examples) ? and How can you support others to be responsible citizens and their best selves ( try to be specific and give three examples)? Through lecture and exercises, the participants were taught about the theme of  communication, the importance of appreciating themselves and people they communicate with and expressing that appreciation on a daily basis, ways of bringing awareness to all the things they already did in  communication with others that made them feel good. The participants got the task to prepare photos or drawings which reminded them of the topic of communication for the webinar on Thursday.

Thurdsay morning started by all the  participants celebrating European day of languages. We had a small show during which the students sang in Croatian and Italian, recited in German, Croatian and Greek, performed a balcony scene from Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet, told jokes in Latin, performed tongue twisters in Finnish and Polish and small talk in Italian.  The next phase of the working day was concerned with the creation of the digital posters, Sway presentations and Socrative quizzes on the topic of The Dragon's cave and isolation and communication. The afternoon was dedicated to the second part of the Zoom webinar ( 2-3.30 pm)  whose purpose was answering the following questions: What outcome did you notice? What difference did the result make? What else did you explore/see? How can your discoveries be useful to you? Others? Further ideas? What now, next step?  The participants commented on their drawings and photos concerning communication, talked about situations in which they felt safe, competent and lovable and did a positive gossip exercise ( each member of the group was talked nicely by all the  other group participants, the exercise is done when all the group members got their praises).
Friday morning was dedicated to students' final work concerning Socrative, Sway and Piktochart and the topics of The Alka, The Dragon's Cave, communication and Croatia and their preparation for the presentation of the working week's result which took place after lunch and ended with a small farewell party.
